Display name approval
The rules Meta applies to your WhatsApp display name, why names get rejected, and how to change it later.
Your display name is what customers see at the top of the chat. Meta reviews every one, and a rejection stalls your setup — so it is worth getting right the first time.
The rules
Your display name must:
- Relate clearly to your business — match your legal name, trading name, website domain, or the name on your social pages.
- Not be a generic word or category. "Delivery", "Support", "Shop Now" and "Best Prices" are all rejected.
- Not be only a phone number, URL or address.
- Follow correct capitalisation — no ALL CAPS unless it is a genuine acronym.
- Not contain punctuation for emphasis — no
***Sale***. - Not claim affiliation you do not have. Using another company's brand without permission fails.
The reliable formula
Use your business name exactly as it appears on your website and social pages. If you need to disambiguate, add a location or department: "Kabo Labs Zambia" or "Kabo Labs Support" — not "Support".
How long review takes
Usually a few minutes to 48 hours. It can stretch longer if your business is not yet verified, which is one more reason to start verification early.
You can send messages to test numbers while the name is under review. Full production sending waits for approval.
Common rejection reasons

If you are rejected, Meta tells you the reason in WhatsApp Manager. Fix the underlying issue before resubmitting — repeatedly submitting the same name without changing anything does not help.
Changing it later
WhatsApp Manager → Phone numbers → the number → Edit display name.
The new name goes through the same review. Your existing name stays live while the new one is reviewed, so there is no downtime.
There is a rate limit
Meta restricts how often a display name can change — roughly once every 30 days per number. Pick a name you can live with.
